FEDERATED FARMERS PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR WOOL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
The Meat and Wool Section Council meeting on 13 October expressed support for the principle of the Wool Business Development Project.
Section Chairman, Chris Lester said that a vote taken after a presentation from McKinsey & Co, indicated majority support for the project.
"The McKinsey presentation was of the highest professional standard and convinced enough of our Council members to carry the vote," said Mr Lester.
The Meat and Wool Council also agreed to continue its involvement with the Stakeholder Committee to be established by the Wool Board. The Stakeholder Committee will liaise with the project consultants and co-ordinate consultation with growers.
Federated Farmers wants the Stakeholder Committee to have a continued involvement in implementing the project's recommendations.
With only one position on this Stakeholder Group, Mr Lester is concerned that a heavy workload will be placed on the Federated Farmers nominee.
"Because of the large nation-wide industry representation involved through Federated Farmers membership, the Meat and Wool Section should have a minimum of two people in this group," added Mr. Lester.
"We have already initiated discussions with the Board and hope to finalise this at their AGM next week."
