TVNZ picked up a top honour at last night’s 1999 TUANZ Awards, winning the Best Application of Information/Communication Technology for the TV ONE TVNZ/Deloitte Budget99 Presentation.
In association with Deloitte as sponsor TVNZ delivered the 1999 Budget as a live Internet event targeted at New Zealand corporate desktops.
On Budget Day (20 May), the full budget by Sir William Birch was streamed live on the site in G2 RealVideo format and The Address and Reply debate was also streamed live. When concluded highlights of the Budget were filed for Internet access as were the speeches of the four party leaders.
Interactive text, graphic and pictorial support was added in the form of news items and reports and text highlights of the budget document. Links t the full Treasury documents were made. Further streamed commentaries were appended later that evening from news and Deloitte commentators.
TVNZ New Media Marketing and Content Manager, John Marks said, “One of the prime motivations behind this site was the realisation that many business people cannot see a daytime budget on television. The site drew substantial traffic throughout the afternoon and peaked in the early evening as New Zealanders overseas joined for a look at the budget.
“This award further highlights TVNZ’s commitment to new media. Our website traffic figures now show the combined TVNZ websites are the most popular New Zealand Internet designation with nearly four million page views in a typical month.”
TVNZ has become a primary supplier of streamed video to the internet in New Zealand, streaming live stock market reports, ONE News items, Telstra Business, Good Morning (live), Crossfire, Tight Five, sports items and other content.
