First quarter pokie statistics

The latest quarterly statistics on pokies in pubs and clubs released by the Department of Internal Affairs continue recent trends with increasing gaming machine profits but a decreasing number of gaming machines and venues.

The headline statistics for January to March 2019 show:
• $217.9 million in gaming machine profits, $5.9 million or 2.8 per cent higher than the $212 million for the same period last year.
• 1,103 venues, 43 or 3.8 per cent fewer than the 1,146 at the same period last year. • 15,118 gaming machines, 372 or 2.4 per cent fewer than the 15,490 at the same period last year.
