First KiwiBuild homes in the Bay of Plenty

KiwiBuild and Classic Builders are proud to announce the first KiwiBuild homes in Greater Tauranga are available for purchase by eligible buyers, say KiwiBuild Head of Delivery Helen O’Sullivan and Classic Builders Director Peter Cooney.

Founded over 20 years ago, Classic Builders is the largest residential house builder in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato, and one of the largest residential building companies in New Zealand.

27 standalone KiwiBuild homes are being built at Kaimai Views, a 242 home development in Omokoroa. This development is the result of a collaboration between Classic Builders and the Western Bay of Plenty District Council. Located 19km from Tauranga CBD, at the entrance to Omokoroa, Kaimai Views combines proximity to the city with affordable family homes, and access to beaches and outdoor activities.

The KiwiBuild homes are a mix of two- and three-bedroom properties priced at $485,000-$500,000. The first eight homes at Kaimai Views go on sale on May 16th, with the first open home on May 26th. from 11am to 2pm. The homes will be available for direct sale, without a ballot.

The first homes are due for completion over the next few weeks. Construction of the homes began after Ministers gave the go ahead late last year for KiwiBuild and Classic Builders to finalise a contract.

Over 6,000 people have registered their interest in a KiwiBuild home in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty. With an average house price of $733,000 (up 47% in four years), Tauranga has some of the most expensive housing in the country. The median house price in Omokoroa is $798,000.

The deal between KiwiBuild and Classic Builders will see a total of 46 homes built in Omokoroa, Whangarei, and Canterbury. Details of the remaining homes will be announced when they go on the market.

KiwiBuild eligibility:

To buy a KiwiBuild home, you must be a first home buyer or ‘second chancer’ (a previous property owner without large assets). You will also need to:

- be at least 18 years old

- be a New Zealand Citizen, Permanent Resident or a Resident Visa holder who is ‘ordinarily resident in New Zealand’

- have an income of less than $180,000 a year for two or more buyers, or $120,000 a year for a single buyer.

- intend to own and live in the home for at least 3 years.
