Silver Fern Farms welcomes applications for the Plate to Pasture Youth Scholarships for 2019. In its third year, the Plate to Pasture Scholarship programme will award six winners from across the country $5000 to assist with developing their careers and capabilities in the red meat sector.
Silver Fern Farms Chief Executive Simon Limmer says that supporting emerging talent in the red meat sector is vital to developing relationships that will strengthen the red meat sector.
“The Plate to Pasture Youth Scholarship programme offers Silver Fern Farms a unique opportunity to hear directly from the future leaders of our industry.”
“Since the programme was launched two years ago we have invested $60,000 to further the careers of young people. It has been great to hear the innovative ideas and passion from young people who have their sights set firmly on creating a sustainable future for themselves and the red meat sector.”

This year we will be asking applicants to explore the issues of sustainability in the red meat sector and find out their solutions for on farm, processing and in market. We look forward to seeing fresh perspectives that challenge and inspire us.”
Applications are now invited from people wanting to develop their career in the food or red meat industry with interests in; red meat, food production, agriculture, food marketing, marketing and sales, research and development, food processing, sustainability, cooking and food technology. The applicants require a Silver Fern Farms Co-operative shareholder to support their bid for a scholarship. This gives shareholders the opportunity to encourage young people who want to progress their careers in the red meat sector says Silver Fern Farms Co-operative Chair Rob Hewett.
