Magic Brand Debuts as NZ’s Third Biggest Station

MAGIC BRAND DEBUTS AS NZ’S THIRD BIGGEST STATION
On debut, the Magic brand encompassing both Magic Talk and Magic Music has 416,700 listeners* in the first GFK commercial survey results of the year, making it the third biggest station in the country with an 8.1% share. In Auckland, Magic increased its share by 0.4% to reach 5.6%** and it was also the leading brand by share in Hawkes Bay$, Nelson$$ and Manawatu$$$.
MEDIAWORKS REMAINS HOME OF THE COMMERCIALLY IMPORTANT 25-54 AUDIENCE
MediaWorks is the home of the commercially important 25-54 demographic with the top six music stations nationwide by share+ with The Rock, The Breeze, The Sound and More FM (third equal), The Edge and Mai FM.
INTRODUCING THE ALL NEW ROVA
MediaWorks is rolling out the next innovation phase of digital audio streaming platform rova, with a suite of new features including: ‘Listen live’ to stations, pop-up music channels and podcasts, the ability to ‘favourite’ a channel or podcast, a sleep timer and improved search functionality. The all new rova is available now via the App Store for iOS users and in coming weeks the Android version will come to Google Play. Rova continues its success gaining a further 57,000~ downloads since November 2018, recording 442,000 total app downloads to date. The number of unique monthly users has also increased to 121,000~~, an increase of 28,000 users per month.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
Overall commercial radio listenership has increased by 21,700 with MediaWorks increasing its audience by 19,500 from 2018 reaching 2,378,500 listeners nationwide*.
The Breeze is New Zealand’s most popular music station outright with 8.4% share nationwide.
At Drive time# , MediaWorks holds the top six music stations nationwide with The Breeze (8.3% share), followed by The Rock, More FM, The Edge, The Sound and Mai FM.
More FM remains New Zealand’s top music station at Breakfast time with a 9.2% share nationally##.
The Edge retains the highest cumulative audience with 608,500 listeners nationwide*, more than 67,000 listeners ahead of its nearest competitor***.
Of the results, Leon Wratt, MediaWorks Radio Group Content Director, says: “I’m thrilled with the results of the first GFK commercial survey of the year. To have Magic debut with an 8.1% share shows the two brands have successfully come together to deliver to its audience and provides a great base to build on going forward. MediaWorks brands have collectively increased listenership by 19,500 - in a mature market this result is testament to the work our teams are doing across the board."
