Unregulated property management
market jeopardises the reputation of all property managers,
says REINZ
An unregulated property management
market is jeopardising the reputation of all property
managers operating in New Zealand, according to the Real
Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ). As a result, REINZ
has partnered with the Skills Organisation to now offer the
New Zealand Certificate in Residential Property Management
(Level 4), which is recognised by the NZQA to help improve
professionalism, transparency and best practice across the
Property Management industry.
Bindi Norwell, Chief Executive at REINZ says: “This is about helping to improve the skills and knowledge of property managers to help ensure that a more level playing field operates across the industry. The qualification will provide practical key learnings on best practice via industry led workshops, improve the understanding of current legislation impacting tenants, landlords and Property Managers, support Branch Managers when leading teams of Property Managers and ultimately help prevent ending up in front of the tenancy tribunal by building expertise on the appropriate obligations and responsibilities as a property manager.
“This is also about ensuring that people are one
step ahead should a formal qualification be required by the
Government should it regulate the industry down the
track,” concludes Norwell.
The programme takes 7 - 12
months to complete, commencing 10 June 2019, and is a
combination of accessible online learning and four workshops
led by industry and subject matter experts. The key topics
covered are:
o property management
legislation
o property inspections
o completing rental
appraisal reports
o managing tenancy disputes,
and
o managing and marketing a residential
property
REINZ is offering a special launch offer to
current REINZ members looking to complete the
qualification.
Normally the qualification costs $1,599 +GST but until 31 May 2019, REINZ members will be able to sign up for $1,499+GST. The non-member price is $1,899 +GST.
