Enterprise Dunedin launches new economic data insights dashboard
(Dunedin 26 March 2019)
Enterprise Dunedin in conjunction with key city stakeholders will launch a new data insights dashboard on its DunedinNZ.com site on 18 March. Detailing statistics and trends across a number of city sectors, including tourism, DunedinNZ Insights addresses one of the main actions within the Dunedin Destination Plan to ‘collect and share insights’.
Found at www.dunedinnz.com/researchandstatistics, and developed with the help of local company Flock Consulting, DunedinNZ Insights collates information from a variety of sources. Its dashboard gives a snapshot of important data that is relevant for monitoring the city’s economic wellbeing. People can ‘drill’ a little deeper to additional information such as relevant reports and surveys.
Dunedin City Council’s Enterprise Dunedin Director, John Christie, says, “The DunedinNZ Insights dashboard has been designed by Dunedin for Dunedin to help inform decision-making. It will provide regular data on living, visiting, studying, working and investing in our great small city.
“It’s easy to use so people will be able to find a wide variety of information and data collated by Enterprise Dunedin from external sources. For example, you can find out how many cruise ship passengers are expected, where visitors are staying, domestic and international student numbers and economic factors such as the population of Dunedin.
“Key stakeholder partners and cross-sector representatives are working with Enterprise Dunedin in ‘Insights Forums’ to ensure a city-wide and sector-wide approach to the collecting, sharing and reporting of data.
“These are exciting times for Dunedin as we enter a period of change and growth. By sharing and analysing local, national and regional statistics regularly and consistently we can all identify trends, keep ahead of change and inform marketing and management activities for Dunedin as a destination.”
The information will be useful to local government and businesses and those operating in all areas of tourism, as well as visitors, domestic and international students and their families and, of course, the Dunedin community.
Mr Christie says, “The launch of DunedinNZ Insights marks the start of a six-month trial period. The Insights Forum membership includes a lot of people with diverse interests and we want to give them an opportunity to see how the dashboard works. After the trial period, we’ll review their feedback, and make any necessary improvements.”
