Regional services from Christchurch have resumed this morning and these flights will be subject to passenger and baggage
screening following yesterday’s shooting tragedy in the city for at least the next 48 hours.
The airline made the decision to cancel all regional services departing Christchurch yesterday evening in the wake of
the shooting tragedy and additional measures have been put in place overnight for regional flights leaving Christchurch.
All jet services in New Zealand are already subject to these screening measures.
Air New Zealand asks customers booked to travel out of Christchurch to check the arrivals and departure page on the Air New Zealand website for their flight status and to come to the airport early to allow time for screening
processes.
The airline yesterday introduced flexibility for customers booked to travel to or from Christchurch. Customers booked to
travel on Christchurch services any time until the end of the weekend automatically have the option to change and rebook
any tickets should they no longer be able to travel. Customers are advised to consult the airline’s Travel Alerts page for further details on the travel flexibility.
The Government has advised there has been no specific threat to aviation and the aviation threat level for New Zealand
remains at low. The extra security measures in Christchurch are intended to provide additional certainty and peace of
mind to the airline and its customers and employees until investigations into the shooting are able to provide further
clarity.
