Rainbow trucks deliver concrete and diversity

Published: Fri 15 Mar 2019 04:24 PM
Seven trucks permanently wrapped in striking ‘Rainbow’ designs will be hitting the roads soon to deliver cement, concrete and aggregate to customers throughout the country.
The trucks are part of the Golden Bay Cement (GBC), Firth and Winstone Aggregates fleet, and bring to life the businesses’ support for the LGBTI community.
Justin says he is enjoying the experience of driving a GBC Rainbow cement tanker:
“The tanker gets noticed wherever I go. Not everyone realizes what it’s about straight away, but when they do I’m really proud of it.
“Our industry hasn’t traditionally been recognised for its diversity, but for every employee, customer, or Kiwi who has ever struggled with feeling accepted, I hope the trucks send the message – you’re accepted for who you are. That’s what we want to stand for as a company and it’s great to be part of a diverse and inclusive team.”
The fleet of heavy vehicles totals seven tankers, trucks and tippers which will be out delivering to customers in Auckland, Waikato/Bay of Plenty, Wellington and Christchurch.
GBC, Firth and Winstone Aggregates, owned by Fletcher Building, were motivated to amplify their support for the LGBTI community after seeing the positive impact of having one Rainbow concrete mixer last year.
Firth General Manager Cameron Lee says, “The trucks are about starting positive conversations around diversity. Having one Rainbow truck opened our eyes to the difference we could make. As a national company we have the opportunity to make a real difference.
“We believe that everyone deserves to feel like they fit in and we hope that seeing a truck reminds everyone of this message. If you see one of our Rainbow trucks, wave to the let the driver know!”
Fletcher Building is passionate about championing diversity and inclusivity, and was the first New Zealand building materials, distribution and construction company to achieve Rainbow Tick certification in 2015.
Two Rainbow trucks, a Firth Concrete mixer and a Winstone Aggregates tipper, will be in the Wellington Pride Parade tomorrow Saturday 16 March and Fletcher Building is an inaugural co-sponsor of the Rainbow Excellence Awards Development forum being held on 17 May 2019.
