Giant NZ partners with GODZone Adventure Race in Canterbury

One of the world’s leading bike brands Giant has partnered with GODZone to support racing teams at next month’s seven-day adventure race in Canterbury.
Giant Bicycles specialises in creating premium-grade mountain bikes, road and e-bikes with one mission in mind: to improve the cycling experience for all.

“Giant has always been focused on delivering the best performing product for every segment of the market. We have been a big supporter of racing in New Zealand and love seeing competitors pushing themselves and our bikes to the limit,”says Giant NZ Brand Manager Jason Foster. “GODZone is one of those iconic, premium events that we are stoked to be involved with for Chapter 8 in Akaroa and Canterbury.”

The seven-day adventure race will be held from the 10th– 17thMarch 2019 with an international field of 280 competitors. The teams will arrive on the 9thMarch in Akaroa for the official GODZone welcome and registration.

“Giant has produced a special piece of memorabilia that each competitor will receive as part of their official registration race pack. The sports towels feature both the Giant and GODZone logo and I expect they will be a well-used piece of kit by the time racing is over,” says Foster.

“We are supplying a number of new Giant E-bikes to assist GODZone medics and media to travel around certain areas of the remote course in a speedy manner. It’s an excellent way to showcase the latest range of bikes and give media a Giant cycling experience.”

Giant are prize sponsor for the new Prime racing category at GODZone and will provide Giant prize packs for the 1st, 2ndand 3rdplaced teams in that category.

“Adventure sports are really big right now. The scale and scope of the Canterbury region is massive, and the Giant range of off-road mountain bikes are ideal for this type of event. My two choices for GODZone would be either the Anthem Advanced 29er or the XTC Advanced 29er. Both have super-efficient, fast rolling 29er wheels. The Anthem has a very small amount of travel in the rear (90mm), so it can smooth out the bumps during those very long days while the XTC opts for a rigid frame to save every last gram,” says Foster.

As the world’s largest expedition length adventure race, GODZone delivers an experience like no other for competitors. Foster says the event is unique.

“Adventure racing is probably unlike other traditional multisport events like Xterra and Ironman where the mental component of racing is taken to a whole other level and almost outweighs the physical element. It’s a great spectacle for people to watch and be inspired by in their own lives similar to a climber summiting Everest. I think GODZone embodies this, and we look forward to it continuing to grow both in New Zealand and with global competitors.”
