Food Makes the Heart Grow Stronger

Published: Thu 14 Feb 2019 12:31 PM
For any Kiwi looking for romance this Valentine’s Day they need to look no further than food to woo their significant other.
The romantic announcement comes off the back of the Great New Zealand Valentine’s Day Survey commissioned by Beef + Lamb New Zealand, with a remarkable 77% of over 200 respondents suggested food (‘homecooked meal’ 43% & ‘taken out for a meal’ 34%) was the best way to their heart. A bunch of flowers (9%) and heart-shaped box of chocolates (2%) trailed in the romantic stake, whilst ‘a nice bottle of Pinot Noir’ was also suggested and even one rogue participant stated they would like a ‘snog with the girlfriend not the wife’.
It just goes to show that Kiwis need not think too far outside the chocolate box, rather keep it simple and spend it together with some delicious food and your significant other.
When asked what ‘go-to’ meal respondents would cook if they were trying to impress someone, 20% stated they would turn to the tried and tested Kiwi classic – The Roast – to impress bae. In terms of headline ingredients, beef and lamb was voted overwhelmingly as the preferred option with 69% of the votes (beef 37% and lamb 32%), shellfish received 13% of the vote and chicken just 9%.
For anyone looking for that extra special steak, the most romantic roast or that sexy slow cooker recipe are advised to head to recipes.co.nz featuring thousands of show stopping beef and lamb meals.
