We are delighted to announce the 2019 Young Achiever Award run by New Zealand Plant Producers is now open to receive entries.
The competition seeks to reward and recognise the best young nursery people in the country. The costs of running the competition and the prizes are generously supported by the HortiCentre Charitable Trust.
NZPPI chief executive Matthew Dolan says, “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people with careers in the primary sector to take the next steps in their careers and to compete with other nurserymen and women.”
“Celebrating knowledge of young adults in the nursery sector is inspiring to others seeking careers in this vocation. This is a great time to be in our sector and we are looking forward to the competition in May.
“The Young Achiever competition will push entrants to learn valuable new skills, offers them exceptional networking opportunities with industry leaders and a boost to their careers.
“Last year’s Young Achiever Devin Westley went on to be runner up 2018 Young Horticulturalist of the Year. He is truly an inspiration to others. This is what we need to take NZ nurseries to the next level of science and innovation,” Matt Dolan said.
Applicants must be under 30 years and have a love for the nursery and garden industry and an excellent knowledge of the products they deal with
and a real passion for their work.
They are assessed by a panel of industry professionals, and three finalists are selected. The finalists attend the NZPPI Conference May 15 & 16 in Christchurch, where they participate in a series of activities to test their skills whilst being scored and assessed by the judges. The winner is announced at the NZPPI Gala Dinner 15 March.
