Duffle&Co launch product made from pineapple leather
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New
Zealand fashion brand Duffle&Co are the first to launch
product made entirely from pineapple
leather!
They are the first to introduce pineapple leather into
the country. This brings huge value for the NZ and
international fashion industry, paving the way for more
transparent, sustainable consumerism. [01/02/2019,
Wellington, New Zealand] Duffle&Co are excited to
announce the introduction of pineapple leather into their
range. Duffle&Co are the first business in New Zealand to
showcase this innovative material, providing the country
with a chemical-free, zero-waste, vegan-friendly alternative
to leather.
The pineapple leather known as Piñatex, was developed by Dr. Carmen Hijosa and her company Ananas Anam, after her work as a leather export consultant in the Philippines. Piñatex is a response to a call for socially and environmentally responsible fabric. Made from the cellulose fibres from discarded pineapple leaves, it’s a byproduct of existing agriculture. Once leaves have been stripped of fibre the leftover biomass can be used as a nutrient-rich natural fertiliser or a biofuel, so nothing is wasted.
Kai Daniel, Co Founder of Duffle&Co says “We feel uneasy about our future, particularly when it comes to the depletion of natural resources. The introduction of piñatex into our range is a huge leap, taking us a step closer to only using the best natural materials that are environmentally and socially sound.”
Duffle&Co’s introduction of Piñatex comes in the form of two new bags, The Emily Crossbody ($219) and The Zanco Pouch ($119). Both are made in paprika, a bold new colour that dares consumers to wear their values.
