Kiwis grab $1 Air New Zealand flights in sale stampede

Smart travellers have snapped up 500 Air New Zealand domestic flights priced at just $1 in 32 minutes this morning, sparking an online fare frenzy at Grabaseat.co.nz.
The most popular route, from Dunedin to Wellington, sold out within two minutes of the sale launching at 9.00am today, with all 500 of the $1 fares flying off Grabaseat by 9.32am.
The dollar deals included regional routes such as Gisborne-Wellington, Auckland-Kerikeri, Christchurch-Palmerston North, and Auckland-Rotorua, as well as 45 seats in each direction on both Auckland-Christchurch, and Auckland-Wellington.
Air New Zealand Chief Revenue Officer Cam Wallace says the insanely low fares attracted an unprecedented level of traffic.
“Grabaseat’s unmissable deals attract huge interest, and our booking site did slow for a short time this morning under the weight of a phenomenal number of hits.
