Queenstown Airport monthly passenger traffic report - December 2018

Below is a summary of the monthly passenger numbers compared with the same period last year: The total number of passengers travelling through the terminal increased by 10% compared with last year to 219,293 passengers in December.

Domestic traffic was up 8% on December last year to 159,374 passengers, with growth strongest in the first and last weeks of the month.

Traffic across the Tasman was up 14% on last December to 59,919, mainly due to a 16% increase in capacity (or 32 more flights- both arrivals and departures) on last year.

In December, the 12-month passenger numbers reached 2,241,920 million, up 11% compared to the previous 12 months with growth in domestic and international.

Some interesting key facts: Growth in international passengers was stronger in the second half of the month in-line with Christmas, New Year and Australian school holidays.

Domestic passenger numbers peaked at both at the start of the month and the end of the month, coinciding again with Christmas and NZ school holidays.

The busiest day was 29 December with almost 9,800 passengers through, making it the airport’s 2nd busiest day on record.

Other events included Shania Twain in Dunedin (minimal impact on numbers) and Rhythm and Alps in the Cardrona Valley which attracted a crowd of over 10,000 across the weekend For more airport statistics please visit www.queenstownairport.co.nz/stats.
