Air New Zealand is helping Kiwi exporters to serve up Christmas dinner to people around the world this holiday season.
The airline will work with meat processors and exporters from around the country to move more than 700 tonnes of lamb to the United Kingdom in the lead up to Christmas. More than 1000 tonnes of Central Otago cherries will also be sent to Asia and the United States over the summer season – that’s more than 65 million individual cherries!
Air New Zealand General Manager Cargo Rick Nelson says; “There’s huge demand for New Zealand meat in Europe and particularly for lamb at Christmas time in the UK. We work closely with our freight forwarding partners to get these premium Kiwi products offshore in the lead up to the festive season.”
“We play a key role for the nation’s export industry, carrying around 3.2 million kilograms of meat such as lamb, beef and venison to export markets annually via our extensive global cargo network, with the holiday season being one of our busiest times.”
Capsicums, crayfish and salmon are other in demand export items at this time of year which Air New Zealand carries around the world.
