First ever service between Invercargill and Auckland

Published: Fri 14 Dec 2018 12:47 PM
Air New Zealand is set to trial a direct service between Invercargill and Auckland using its Airbus A320 jet aircraft from the second half of 2019.
The trial service will operate five days a week, departing Invercargill at 6am and arriving in Auckland at 7:55am. The Auckland-Invercargill service will depart at 7:35pm. With a flight time of approximately two hours, the new service will be the longest domestic Air New Zealand flight.
Air New Zealand Head of Regional Affairs Reuben Levermore says the airline is excited to launch a direct Invercargill-Auckland service next year using its A320 jet aircraft.
“The Southland community has told us a direct Invercargill-Auckland service is important and we’ve been working closely with stakeholders to achieve this. The challenge will be for the community to support the trial of a direct service to ensure it’s sustainable, and we’re confident they’ll do so.”
Air New Zealand will announce the commencement date for the new service when tickets go on sale in January.
