World Vision announces new board chairperson

Fepulea’i Margie Apa has been announced as the new chairperson of the World Vision New Zealand board. She joined the WVNZ Board in 2011 and has been the deputy chair since 2016.

Margie Apa is Chief Executive Officer of the Counties Manukau District Health Board, where she has worked since 2012. Before that she worked in various roles at the Ministry of Health, Capital and Coast DHB and the Department of Labour. Margie also chairs the board of Presbyterian Support Northern.

Margie Apa says “My professional life has been about improving the wellbeing of children and the communities they live in in New Zealand. It’s a privilege to now be able to extend this mission to children all over the world as Chair of World Vision New Zealand. My prayer for WVNZ is that we are able to connect with and engage New Zealanders to be world visionaries for vulnerable children and their whaanau all over the world.”

National Director of World Vision New Zealand Grant Bayldon says “I’m thrilled to have Margie take over leading the board. She brings great leadership and management experience, and she has such a heart for our work here at World Vision. Her commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable children will help us continue our important work around the world.

Margie Apa replaces Peter McClure, who has been a World Vision NZ board member since 2004 and chairperson since 2006. He is also a member of the World Vision International board and chair of the WVI Stewardship Committee. Peter will remain on the WVNZ Board until his position on the WVI Board ends in November next year.
