Contact Energy certified with the Rainbow Tick
Contact Energy’s reputation as a safe and inclusive work environment for all its staff has received a boost with the company being certified with the “Rainbow Tick”.
The certification process tests whether a workplace understands, values, and welcomes sexual and gender diversity.
To achieve accreditation, Contact Energy had to undergo an assessment based on the current international best practice. Information was obtained in the following areas: Policy, Staff Engagement, External Engagement, Organisational Development, and Monitoring. Rainbow Ticks (www.rainbowtick.co.nz) are awarded to organisations that complete this inclusion and diversity certification process.
Contact Energy CEO Dennis Barnes said the company was proud to have been certified with the “Rainbow Tick”.
“This demonstrates that we are a company that embraces diversity among our staff. We welcome people from the Rainbow Community and indeed people from all backgrounds and ethnicities.”
“We strive to be a safe environment that encourages our staff to be who they are and ensures that they are able to work in an environment free of fear and stigma.”
“Studies show that a truly diverse and inclusive environment is directly linked to enhanced performance and strengthened brand reputation.”
Mr Barnes said Contact Energy also believed inclusion and diversity was paramount to creating the best working environment.
The move to get accreditation was led by a team including Contact Energy Legal Counsel Jade Neale, who said it had been a very robust and rewarding process.
“This is quite an achievement for Contact Energy and will enhance our standing and reputation in the LGBT+ community.”
“It is important that all staff members feel comfortable and safe enough to be themselves in the work environment as this allows them to be their most productive and creative. It is a win-win situation for both staff and the company,” Mr Neale said.
“Hopefully this will also encourage people from the Rainbow Community to explore becoming part of the team at Contact.”
