Auckland, 29 November 2018. Regular car services can stop minor car issues becoming major financial problems. But,
latest research from Canstar Blue reveals two in five people are skipping regularly servicing their car in a bid to save
money.
“Unless you know a lot about cars and are maintaining your vehicle yourself, skipping services can be a huge false
economy.” Says Canstar Blue’s Emma Quantrill. “20 percent of the people we spoke to confessed to getting their car
serviced less often and most of them cited saving money as the reason. But ultimately, a basic service can cost you
under $100, can help protect your engine for thousands of miles and ultimately, prolong the life of your vehicle.”
Why do I need to spend my cash on a service?
Many of the checks carried out during a car service are on the components and bits of the car we can’t see, and let’s
face it (because we’re not all car experts) may not even know about! Fluids and oils need changing, pressures and
filters checked, and belts, drives and plugs may need replacing. Not getting these things done will most probably result
in damage to your engine which at best, could cost you a lot of time and money and at worst it could lead to
catastrophic engine or mechanical failure that could put the safety of you, your passengers and other road users in
danger. A sobering thought.
