Sysmex New Zealand have been selected as a 2018 NZHIT Innovation Awards finalist for their work with Shared Health Manitoba in Canada to implement a single Sysmex Delphic LIS for the region. The provincial LIS was completed in 2018 and is providing tangible benefits for the management of 78 laboratories and the delivery of diagnostic services for the population of Manitoba.
Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) are rarely highlighted as ground-breaking or innovative. They don’t conjure up images of sexy software, yet the critical importance of the role an LIS plays in providing detailed, patient-centric diagnostic information to clinicians should not be undervalued. When an LIS is able to be configured and shared by multiple, individual laboratories, and applied across a health system, the efficiency gains are powerful; facilitating innovation in specimen, results and data workflow for laboratory services which improves patient care and enables sustainable healthcare.
The New Zealand Health IT’s Innovation Awards were created to recognise the success and excellence of the NZ Health It sector. They celebrate the innovation and resilience required to create and implement IT-based solutions and are open to NZHIT members regardless of size or location.
This year the awards were split into two categories: New Zealand health IT solution (a solution that is in use in New Zealand’s health and disabilities sector) and International health IT solution (a solution that is in use in a health sector in a country (or countries) other than New Zealand).
Colin McKenzie, Sales Director at Sysmex New Zealand said “The NZHIT Innovation awards are a great way to highlight the fantastic work being undertaken by the NZ health IT sector, both here and overseas. Being named as a finalist is an honour and a wonderful pat on the back for all of the Sysmex and Shared Health staff who have contributed to ensuring the successful implementation of the provincial LIS and delivery of improved sustainable healthcare for Manitoba.
The finalists and winner were announced at the HiNZ Conference awards ceremony on Wednesday 21st November in Wellington.
