Auckland on show at annual business events showcase
• ACB Auckland Showcase held at Shed 10 last week.
• Over 100 clients had the chance to speak with 29 Auckland business event suppliers about hosting events in Auckland.
• Clients had the chance to talk to hotels, venues, and a wide range of event support services.
A 100-year old heritage-listed cargo shed on Auckland’s Queens Wharf was transformed into a stunning events space for the Auckland Convention Bureau (ACB) Auckland Showcase event last week.
Shed 10 is a multipurpose event space and provided a blank canvas for ACB to show off one of Auckland’s diverse venue options to over 100 business event organisers.
ACB was also supported by 29 of its business partners who inspired guests with the opportunities available around Auckland for hosting events, meetings and conferences.
The business partners covered everything from hotels and venues to caterers, activity operators, event stylists, and entertainment providers, who were part of a pop-up exhibition for an hour ahead of the luncheon.
Stu Robertson, Managing Director of Team Up Events, was one of the exhibitors and organised the icebreaker challenge for attendees during the exhibition.
He was thrilled by the networking opportunities made available by the event.
“It’s great to network with others in our industry and absorb new information, particularly because any event that happens in Auckland benefits us all – whether you’re working together as supplier and organiser, or from the overarching view that the more successful events that Auckland hosts will attract new business.”
ACB’s Lee Picken, Manager - Business Development also provided clients with an update on some of the exciting development that is underway in Auckland and what’s ahead, including some of the new hotel builds, refurbishments and convention centre builds.
Head of ACB Anna Hayward says the annual Auckland showcase event provides a great opportunity for clients to meet with suppliers to help them plan for future events and understand Auckland’s offering.
“Auckland is a city that sits amidst a stunning backdrop, boasts metropolitan sophistication and can lay claim to being one of the best natural playgrounds in New Zealand,” she said.
“Through this event we want to make sure our clients are also aware that they can access help and guidance of ACB. The team provide free expert advice on suppliers, activities and innovative ideas and will work closely and collaboratively with clients to ensure that Auckland hosts another unforgettable event.”
ACB, in conjunction with its members and industry partners, won an impressive $45 million worth of business events in the year ending June 2018, with a promising pipeline for securing business events in the current financial year.
Auckland Convention Bureau, a division within Auckland, Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED), markets Auckland, on behalf of Auckland Council, as a premium destination for meetings, incentives, conventions and events.
