Campervan owners encouraged to share vehicles as demand rises and summer holidays approach.
With double the demand of last year and summer holidays fast approaching, Mighway, a sharing platform connecting owners
of motorhomes with guests, is putting the call out to campervan owners to list their vehicles.
Campervan owners throughout the country are being encouraged to list their vehicles to meet customer demand and to
generate additional income, making the most of their asset when not in use. Bookings of privately owned motorhomes via
the Mighway platform have increased significantly – already 101% up YOY - meaning there are plenty of opportunities for
owners to generate some extra cash. "It's looking to be a big summer for campervan enthusiasts,” says Mighways Head of
Global Marketing Jason Nockels, “ We are in well into the summer booking season - and our numbers are significantly up
from last year with more room to grow. We're predicting a big summer and demand is particularly high in Auckland and
Christchurch, where many begin their campervan journeys. Whilst we would love to be in the campervan all summer at the
beach – the reality is, for many – it spends time in the driveway. Mighway provides an opportunity to drive income
during that time”
Since launch in 2015 Mighway has paid out more than $3million to private owners, many of whom are retirees. Auckland
couple David and Suzanne Owen purchased their motorhome expecting to use it regularly - but unexpected health issues
meant for the first year they didn't use as expected. Instead, they have made renting the x berth vehicle to travellers
- both international and domestic. "Mighway has been a great way of generating income rather than letting the motorhome
sit in the driveway - and we've met some great people along the way!" As Mighway vehicles are privately owned -
travellers rent directly from locals making their experience really personal - Mighway owners are shy in sharing tips
and secret hot spots!
Mighway is part of the growing sharing economy - and, as consumers become more comfortable with the concept of sharing
or collaborative consumption - demand for Mighway is increasing. "Mighway is a true peer-to-peer model - connecting
private owners with guests – and offering benefit to both”, says Nockels.
