A Flying Treat with 3 to giveaway

Published: Tue 13 Nov 2018 12:37 PM
A plan was hatched between Chris Jordan, CEO of the Child Flight Charitable Trust, and Duane Emeny, General Manager of Air Chathams to give some deserving people a very special treat on Sunday November the 25th, 2018.
Three scenic flights from Hamilton Airport in the Air Chathams DC3 will take place. The first will carry 28 passengers, women and children associated with the Waikato Women’s Refuge. The second flight is for Hamilton’s Rhode Street School pupils and the third group, people nominated from a Hamilton continuing education group. The group provides lectures designed for and by members of the community to encourage learning opportunities for the over 60’s.
The third charter includes a young girl with cerebral palsy who has flown with Child Flight three years ago but this time her family will be able to accompany her. Also on the same flight will be two families from the Breast Cancer Foundation and a group of senior members of the community.
Three seats have yet to be allocated and these will be given away to the most deserving closer to the time of the flights.
Child Flight NZ provides New Zealand special needs, disadvantaged and vulnerable children especially from low socio-economic areas, the opportunity for a different perspective of their world. They encourage aviation and education communities through New Zealand to help support their programme and provide a spatial experience of flight.
Air Chathams is flying the DC3 from its usual base at the Classic Flyers Museum in Tauranga to Hamilton and return at no charge. Hamilton Airport is providing a terminal lounge for the day and, along with Airways, waiving all landing fees.
The DC3 is the only surviving RNZAF World War II veteran aircraft still operating today in frontline service.
