Skyline Luge International recognised for global business success
A pioneering Kiwi tourism activity that has become a global success story was last night recognised at the 2018 New Zealand International Business Awards.
Skyline Luge International was crowned ANZ Best Large Business for its significant investments in its offshore operations at the annual awards dinner in Auckland last night.
Judges and were impressed with the large-scale international tourism facilities and the ambition in markets as diverse as South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and the UK.
Awards judge Gavin Haworth says: “Skyline Luge International won because of the significant investments they’re making offshore, because of the strategic focus and direction that they take, they’re very clear on where they want to go and why they want to go there, and also because of the phenomenal growth they’ve seen in the last few years. They’re operating outside of New Zealand already, they’re looking to grow into other destinations, and doing all that with significant revenue growth at the same time.”
Since inventing the Luge in 1985, Skyline Luge International has spent more than 30 years refining its product. The company hosts more than seven million Luge rides annually, across the globe. In addition to luge rides in Queenstown and Rotorua, Skyline has spread to six international locations with more in the pipeline.
Skyline invests heavily in continuous improvement of its track and cart designs, as well as customer experience and safety measures, Skyline Luge International general manager Danny Luke says.
“This award is credit to the continuous evolution of our international Luge operations and is testament to the rapid pace at which this facet of Skyline Enterprises is growing internationally,” Luke says.
“Our success wouldn’t be possible without such an incredible team, whose dedication and passion make the Luge what it is, plus our loyal customers and fans worldwide. It’s an absolute honour to be recognised by NZTE, and we are very humbled. We would like to thank NZTE for their support and encouragement in our Luge journey.”
Thirty-one of New Zealand’s leading export companies made it through to the finals of the awards. They came from around New Zealand and represented an array of sectors, demonstrating the nation’s business diversity and innovation. The winners were chosen by an independent panel of 16 judges with extensive experience in growing businesses internationally.
