LONGEST SEASON YET FOR NEW
ZEALAND’S LARGEST CRUISE SHIP
Royal
Caribbean’s supercruiser, Ovation of the Seas, is expected
to inject over $33m to NZ economy in passenger spend alone
during her third New Zealand
season
7 November, 2018
– Ovation of the Seas, New Zealand’s biggest
cruise ship, makes her first New Zealand call for the season
to Wellington on 7 November.
Royal Caribbean has upped the ante again this summer with the megaship set to make 51 port visits in New Zealand, up from last season’s 29 visits.
Dunedin and Wellington are set to benefit the most from the extended third season with ten and eight visits from the ship respectively, while Auckland and Tauranga will receive seven visits this season.
In the 2018/19 season, 168,000 tonne, 347 metre Ovation of the Seas is estimated to inject over NZD$33 million to the New Zealand economy in passenger spend alone.
According to an industry report released earlier this year by the New Zealand Cruise Association, more than 270,500 passengers travelled to New Zealand during the last season, and that figure is set to continue to grow to 344,000 by the end of the 2018/19 season.
By itself, the Ovation of the Seas has capacity for 6000 guests and crew and has attracted new adventurous cruisers with features like a rock climbing wall, trapeze circus school, dodgem cars, FlowRider surf simulator, and a restaurant by Jamie Oliver.
Joining Ovation of the Seas in the region is Royal Caribbean’s family-favourite Explorer of the Seas and the beloved Radiance of the Seas.
