TMJAM launches real time IPONZ trade mark filings
NZ grown law tech company launches real time online trade mark filings
New law tech company TMJAM disrupts traditional intellectual property lawyering with an advanced platform allowing the public to file their own trade mark applications online.
Former intellectual property lawyers David and Hemma were put off by old-school practices and pricing structures. Combining their expertise in intellectual property matters across multiple jurisdictions, they banded together to create the TMJAM.co.nz platform.
The TMJAM application process enables you to register a NZ trademark in three easy steps, paying by credit card and receiving your IPONZ official filing number immediately.
TMJAM is a revolutionary, customer-centric and cost-effective way to file trade mark applications in real time with the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ).
The TMJAM platform lets customers add their trade mark (images and / or words) and select the goods or services they want covered. Secure payment is captured using Stripe, and all major credit cards are accepted.
Following payment, the system files the trade mark direct to IPONZ using its secure API connection, and an official filing number is issued by IPONZ and provided instantly to the customer. Customers can keep all their applications in one place, and by using the registration feature they can avoid putting in new details every time they apply for a new trade mark.
When building the platform David and Hemma applied their knowledge and experience to develop a seamless customer experience which takes the pain out of the process. The customer is at the forefront of TMJAM’s services, rather than unnecessary but traditional structures imposed by high street firms, and the founders pride themselves on the fact that their clients (and prospective clients) can freely pick up the phone to have a chat without receiving a bill a few days later.
David and Hemma agree they represent the future of the trade mark industry, although they acknowledge many firms will be apprehensive to invest in the coming changes due to ‘old law’ ways of thinking.
With the company’s headquarters based in Auckland, TMJAM is well placed to provide support to innovators and business owners, and can do so remotely.
The platform can be used to file trade mark applications in New Zealand and Australia, and TMJAM is able to file international trade marks (including through the Madrid Protocol) on a case-by-case basis.
David and Hemma hope to take their product aboard, introduce new features to their platform, and to develop machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions for use in the intellectual property industry.
The TMJAM platform can be accessed at www.tmjam.com.
