Carbon Fund Offer Opens Today

To list as NZX: CO2 from 8 November 2018
23 October 2018 – New Zealand’s first ever NZX-listed carbon fund opens to investors from today and will list on the NZX under the ticker code CO2 on 8 November 2018.
Salt Funds Management, a boutique investment management firm with more than $2 billion in client funds under management is behind the fund’s launch.
Paul Harrison, Managing Director of Salt Funds, said: “Just in the last week we have received expressions of interest from a broad range of retail and institutional investors.
“There is a genuine appetite to understand the mechanics of the fund, and in particular the risk component, given this is new territory for investors.
“Over the next two weeks we will be meeting with various potential investors, including a number of advisor and broker firms, to provide further background information.
“We have also just launched www.carbonfund.co.nz where investors can access detailed information, and invest directly in the fund,” says Mr Harrison.
The global economy is in transition and the price of carbon is becoming an important factor for investors; as a cost, as an influence and now as an investment opportunity.
The Carbon Fund will offer investors exposure to the price of carbon credits (or Units), which will be bought from the emissions trading scheme in New Zealand or offshore carbon markets.
The fund is being launched amid a global focus on tackling climate change. In New Zealand, the Government is actively exploring ways to meet its Paris Agreement commitments.
In August, the Productivity Commission presented its low-emissions economy report to Government, including a directive that the emissions price created through the New Zealand ETS will need to rise significantly over the next three decades.
The fund’s risk rating has been calculated as high. Salt Funds encourages any interested investor to seek independent financial advice before making any investment decision.
The fund will be issued by Salt Fund’s subsidiary, Salt Investment Funds Limited. Salt Investment Funds Limited is the issuer of units in the Carbon Fund. The product disclosure statement for the Carbon Fund is available from https://www.carbonfund.co.nz/documents/.
