Sealord confirms search for missing crew member
Sealord confirms a search for a crew member is underway in the Pacific Ocean off the coast near Cape Palliser.
Mid-morning this morning (11th October) crew onboard the Otakou fishing vessel became aware a crew member did not report for duty. A full muster was conducted to confirm and a search immediately commenced and authorities notified.
The search involves the Otakou, Search & Rescue, including helicopter, and other vessels in the area. Weather conditions in the area are fair but are predicted to deteriorate tomorrow.
Sealord is making all effort to notify next of kin.
The crew member was not on active duty at the time of disappearance. The reason for the disappearance is not known at this stage. All other crew are accounted for, however, are very concerned for the safety of their team member.
Sealord is taking this situation very seriously and is providing support to all staff.
Sealord is cooperating with all search and rescue instructions.
