Southern Excellence Award Winners Announced

Property Council’s South Island regional awards winners have been announced in a spectacular sold-out event in Christchurch.
Property Council Southern Excellence Awards recognised seven category winners at the Air Force Museum last night (Friday 5 October).
South Island Branch president Roger Davidson says Property Council is delighted to celebrate the people in the industry.
“The South Island branch takes great pleasure in congratulating all of our award winners who’ve contributed so much in the way of time, expertise and experience to our industry.
“It is through the passion and commitment of these individuals and teams that we continue our progress towards full recovery since the earthquakes.
“The crowd here tonight is a reflection of the passion and confidence in our sector.”
The Resene Urban Design Award went to Waterloo Business Park. Located on the former Islington Freezing Works site, Waterloo Business Park has been developed in accordance with a comprehensive masterplan designed to create a functional area with the ability to grow, adapt and evolve over time.
“The judges were highly complimentary of the sense of community achieved by this project and emphasised the powerful importance of custodianship through the prioritisation of people as well as strong environmental considerations. The overall concept and design encourages people to live, work and play within the development and in a competitive market the success of Waterloo Business Park speaks for itself,” says Mr Davidson.
The GHDWoodhead creativespaces Property Professional of the Year Award went to Dr Jan Kupec. A panel of high achievers themselves, the judges were absolutely blown away by this incredibly worthy recipient. The word “wow” does not even remotely capture how technically gifted and extraordinarily selfless Jan Kupec is. The judges could not find enough superlatives to sum up Jan’s achievements both professionally and personally. A unique individual who exudes purpose and community spirit, Jan shines a light for all else to follow and is the perfect example of a property professional this award category seeks to recognise and reward.
The Property Council South Island Supreme Award, the pinnacle of the evening, also went to Dr Jan Kupec from Aurecon.
“The judges specifically recognised and honoured the personal and professional achievements of Dr Jan Kupec. His contribution to the local, national and international property profession through years of experience, expertise and dedication is second to none. His passion to give back to the community through his volunteer work shows an immense amount of selflessness and spirit. Dr Jan Kupec is an individual to be awarded for his technical brilliance and overwhelming sense of purpose and the judges were truly appreciative to be able to award this evening’s Property Council South Island Supreme Award to such an outstanding and worthy recipient.”
