“Give it a go” says winning Masterlink plumbing apprentice

[HAMILTON, 21 SEPTEMBER 2018] Masterlink apprentice Kaleb Reeve knew he wanted to take up a trade when he left school, and he’s pleased he chose plumbing.

“Give it a go,” is Kaleb’s advice to anyone else thinking of doing a plumbing apprenticeship. “It’s always different and you’d really struggle to get bored.”

Kaleb won the top Masterlink apprentice award at the 2018 Waikato Master Plumbers Awards, held at the Wintec Atrium on Friday 21 September.

Since starting his apprenticeship through the Masterlink group apprentice training scheme three years ago, Kaleb has proved a rising star.

He won Best Second Year Masterlink Apprentice at last year’s awards and a Plumbing World Scholarship at the national New Zealand Plumbing Awards. He’s also featured in a FutureForce video, sharing insights about his apprenticeship with career seekers.

“A good plumber is someone who turns up on time and can talk to new people and every now and again is not afraid to get their hands dirty,” he says.

Kaleb loves the variety of the work and the reward of seeing a job well done. He also enjoys earning money while he completes his qualifications.

“I’m doing my apprenticeship through Masterlink, which is really good because I get paid to study and they sort out any problems I have with my block courses,” he says.

Kaleb works at Morrinsville Plumbing & Gas Services.
