Scholarships to support final year tourism students

Published: Thu 20 Sep 2018 12:30 PM
Tourism students planning their final year of study in 2019 are invited to apply for two $4000 scholarships.
The Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust Academic Scholarships are open for applications until 11 October 2018.
The scholarships are available to help young New Zealanders complete their final year of tourism-related tertiary study and prepare them for a fantastic career in the tourism industry.
New Zealand citizens and permanent residents who have successfully commenced their study in a tourism-related course at an NZQA-accredited tertiary institute in New Zealand, and are about to begin their final year of study in 2019 can apply. Up to two scholarships, valued at $4000 will be awarded this year.
The scholarships comprise:
a $2500 payment towards the recipient’s final year of study in a tourism-related tertiary course
attendance at the Tourism Summit Aotearoa (including travel costs and accommodation)
a day of placement and networking with Wellington-based tourism operators and organisations
assistance from TIA to meet tourism operators and organisations from the successful applicant’s region.
The academic scholarships were introduced in 2015 to support New Zealand students working towards study in a tourism-related field. The scholarships aim to encourage young people into the tourism industry.
“The tourism industry offers a huge range of jobs and career pathways to young people, and positions are available in every region, often in locations where few other opportunities exist,” says Tourism Industry Aotearoa Chief Executive Chris Roberts. TIA manages TINZT.
“Whatever your passion, you can have your career in tourism. And for the sustainable success of our industry, we need to attract talented young people.”
