Go Bus Responds to First Union Release Regarding Hamilton Depot Facilities
The following can be attributed to Nigel Piper, Chief Operating Officer, Go Bus
First Union has made a release to the media, principally claiming drivers at its Hamilton Depot are being provided buckets for toilets. This claim is completely and utterly false. If anything it shows the stupidity and mischievous nature of those involved in making such claims and a motivation to deliberately mislead the media.
To be clear, new toilet facilities are being provided to the male drivers in a new depot environment. They aren’t ready to be used yet. The drivers have been directed to use the existing toilets elsewhere in the building whilst their new toilets are constructed. The buckets are what the plumber is using to calculate the placement of the actual toilets. Plain and simple. There are two perfectly functioning toilets for the female staff.
To be clear, the drivers have been verbally told, there is a notice on the entrance to the toilets explaining where the alternative location is, and importantly, the union organiser has been told.
Go Bus is getting fed up with the union using untruths, or stretching the facts, to create unrest as a way to support their pay claims. Go Bus is attempting to have honest, good faith bargaining with the union. This is why we have made an urgent application to the Employment Relations Authority for facilitated bargaining as we can’t seem to make any serious forward movement with this union at present.
