Christchurch is gearing up to host next year’s annual Tourism Export Council of New Zealand (TECNZ) Tourism Conference.
The announcement was made at this year’s conference in Napier and is good news for the city and region, giving suppliers
of tourism product a perfect opportunity to showcase their product and services to those attending.
ChristchurchNZ General Manager Destination and Attraction Loren Heaphy says getting the conference to Christchurch for
the first time in 20 years demonstrated strong confidence in the city and region and all it had to offer.
“This shows how attractive we are as a conference and visitor destination. Christchurch has great connectivity to the
rest of New Zealand, is an easy city to get around and has a myriad of accommodation choices and vibrant experiences for
visitors to explore and enjoy.
“Tour operators will get to experience first-hand the fantastic tourism product on offer in Christchurch and Canterbury,
putting us at the forefront of their minds when they are looking for products to put into their itineraries for future
international visitors.”
TECNZ Chief Executive Judy Chen says the conference always aims to inspire, educate and provide opportunities for the
more than 300 attendees to network with one another.
“We are excited to be bringing the conference to Christchurch in 2019. This is one of the most influential tourism
conferences to be held nationally and there is a strong desire to see Christchurch continue growing its reputation as a
key destination for visitors, who choose to stay in the city and region for longer.”
The conference will be held in Christchurch on the 14th and 15th of August 2019. Local tourism product familiarisations
will be held prior to and after the event.
