The Michael Barnett Scholarship winners announced

Auckland: July 25, 2018

Auckland Business Chamber is delighted to announce that the 2018 recipients for The Michael Barnett Scholarship are Raymond McKay and Elspeth Carroll.

The Michael Barnett Scholarship comprises two scholarships valued at $5,000 each for endeavours in areas of communication, management or leadership.

Raymond McKay is a creative director who intends using the scholarship to assist creating a new digital platform and video series called Orator Circle, showcasing Maori and Pacific leaders.

It would be aimed specifically at Maori, Pacific Islanders and global indigenous cultures about Maori and Pacific leaders in their fields who are doing great things in the world, and who are part of the diaspora of New Zealand and Pasifika talent that Raymond wants to use as inspiration for young New Zealanders.

Michael Barnett says Raymond is passionate about capturing and celebrating the success of Maori and Pacific leaders.

“This initiative will showcase them to a wide audience who will benefit from and be inspired by the stories told.”

Elspeth Carroll is a university graduate who will use the scholarship to further her career in international relations.

Elspeth is currently at Harvard University in America studying towards a Masters of Liberal Arts and International Relations. Elspeth graduated from AUT earlier this year with a Bachelor of Business and is attending Harvard Summer Sessions over 2018 and 2019 to complete her masters.

“Elspeth is committed to contributing to the success of our international relations platform for policy, trade and people. We wish her well,” says Barnett.

The Auckland Business Chamber established this scholarship in 2016 to mark Michael Barnett’s 25 years of leadership of the Auckland Business Chamber.
