Weekend wrap-up: winter well and truly has hit

The weekend’s snowfall has completely re-blanketed The Remarkables and Coronet Peak ski fields in Queenstown.

This weekend saw between 15 and 20 centimetres of fresh powder at Coronet Peak making it prime conditions for excited snow lovers, with cold temperatures allowing the snow makers to keep trails topped up. Today’s conditions are due to drop another 15 centimetres of snow.

This is perfect timing with the first big night skiing event of the season at Coronet Peak this Saturday 30 June. The free event kicks off a packed calendar of après ski parties that will include big beats by DJs like Aroha + MC Tali and King Kapisi & Che Fu, hot pizza and mulled wine on the heated outdoor deck, great vibes and good times.

Coronet Peak Ski Area Manager Nigel Kerr said the mountain has been a “winter wonderland” as they build up to the holidays.

“Snow is accumulating, and the mountain is looking a real picture.”

“The new learners slopes and facilities are working a treat and we’ve had really good feedback from all quarters. Bring it on!”
