Enspiral Dev Academy is currently offering 23 scholarships to attend its intensive full stack web development programme.
Enspiral Dev Academy is a web development course where students learn by doing in small classes from professional
developers. They can begin with little to no experience and leave with all the fundamentals of software development
needed to be employed as junior developers.
Students complete a 9-18 week online preparation module part-time from home before entering the 9 week intensive
in-class course in either Auckland or Wellington.
Students learn JavaScript, React and Redux, working from the front end to the back end and looking at everything from
testing to databases. They work in iterative agile loops and learn the fundamentals of working in a development
environment: communication, teamwork and feedback. This gives them the ability to learn any programming language rapidly
and hit the ground running in a developer job, contributing usefully to a team straight away.
At Enspiral Dev Academy students learn rapid work-ready web development. The curriculum is designed in collaboration
with tech employers and is improved in weekly cycles, so students are learning the exact skills that the industry is
looking for right now. The Dev Academy campus doubles as a startup coworking and events space so students can meet
companies looking for developers. The course also ends with a special careers week which prepares students for
networking and job hunting in the technical world. As a result, 86% of students who graduated over 4 months ago have
work in web development.
Dev Academy began because its founders, Joshua Vial and Rohan Wakefield, saw a gap between the skills that the New
Zealand tech industry needed and the skills that university students were graduating with. They believed that these
skills could be taught better, faster and cheaper if students were willing to work hard for them.

Dev Academy is committed to elevating New Zealand’s tech industry by enabling the demographics of people working in tech
to match the demographics of New Zealand as a whole. That means we need a lot more people working in tech who come from
underrepresented groups, including women, Māori and Pasifika.
To achieve this, the Dev Academy course offers an automatic $500 discount for anyone that is from a group
underrepresented in tech. Graduates leave the programme in 9 weeks ready to get employed as junior web developers - the
same value one might look for in a $30,000 four year university degree. Dev Academy does not focus on theory and
assessments - it is entirely oriented towards the skills students need in the working world.
Dev Academy is working with Te Puni Kōkiri and MBIE to offer 21 $7,000 scholarships to Māori who are interested in
becoming web developers. This reduces course fees to $3,500.
And it is working with MBIE to offer two $10,000 scholarships for Pasifika interested in learning tech, reducing course
fees to $500.
Dev Academy also recently closed applications for women in tech, in conjunction with Skills.org, which were 8
scholarships valued at $9,000 each.
