REINZ welcomes news about KiwiBuild Interest

REINZ welcomes news from the Housing Minister that there has been overwhelming interest from developers in KiwiBuild
If you are writing on the announcement this morning from the Housing and Urban Development Minister Phil Twyford please consider the following comment from Bindi Norwell, Chief Executive at REINZ:
“It is fantastic news that nearly 100 proposals have been received from developers in response to the Government’s KiwiBuild Buying off the Plans tender.
“As New Zealand has a significant housing shortage it’s imperative that we increase the supply of houses overall, but that we also bring a number of affordable properties to the market in order to help first home buyers, and those on low incomes, to be able to get a foot on the property ladder before prices increase further.
“We fundamentally believe that the KiwiBuild programme will make a big difference to housing affordability around the country, but these homes need to be built as quickly as possible. Initiatives that facilitate new builds such as helping with funding by pre-purchasing or underwriting homes, removing red tape and speeding up the build process are to be welcomed.
“The Government has committed to building 16,000 homes in the first three years of the KiwiBuild programme and it is essential that they meet this target if we are to improve affordability,” concludes Norwell.
