The property industry advocate will officially retire on 31 December 2018 after serving as Property Council’s CEO for almost 15 years. Mr Townsend will return as a part time consultant, while providing a handover to the new Chief Executive.
“Connal has guided Property Council through a tenure that saw the organisation grow from a team of four in Auckland, to a team of 23 right across New Zealand.”
“During this period, Property Council has evolved from a relatively small industry body to become the voice of the property industry; representing hundreds of commercial property owners, developers, investors, managers and associates throughout New Zealand.”
“His dedication has supported significant wins, from the establishment of the NZ Green Building Council in 2006, to advising on the creation of Auckland's 'Super City' in 2008, guiding MBIE's earthquake prone buildings policy in 2012 and forging new pathways for Auckland's Unitary Plan in 2014.
“Connal's ongoing advocacy work representing the industry on Central and Local Government advisory groups and as an industry spokesperson in key campaigns has given Property Council members a platform to be heard.” he says.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Connal for his enormous contribution to Property Council and the property industry. I also acknowledge his consideration of the timing of his announcement, which allows adequate time for recruitment of a new Chief Executive to ensure a seamless transition.”
