HN to get rid of plastic with new eco friendly merchandise

Havelock North Moves to Get Rid of Plastic with the Launch of New Environmentally Friendly Merchandise

Havelock North is moving to get rid of plastic as it launches a new range of environmentally friendly merchandise.

The Havelock North Business Association has created re-useable and recyclable bags, coffee cups, notebooks, tea towels and caps with artistic designs, which reflect the uniqueness of the Village.

HNBA President Jane Mackersey says businesses in the Village are already trying to reduce plastic and the new merchandise will help drive the message.

“We are encouraging businesses and residents to use the re-useable bags for shopping in the village and the glass coffee cups to fill up at our cafes. This will help reduce plastic waste around Havelock North and at the same time, people can enjoy holding a trendy bag or coffee cup with a funky design.”

The art on the merchandise aims to depict the character of the Village with the designs including Te Mata Peak, the Tukituki River, wineries, food and fruit in the orchards.

“We wanted to create merchandise that people want to buy, so it was important to have some good creative designs. The artwork shows the activities on offer around the Village including Te Mata Peak and the Tukituki. It portrays Havelock North as a mecca for cafés and good coffee as well as excellent wine and food. We also have the fruit bowl theme coming through,” said Ms Mackersey.

HNBA Executive Committee Member and co-owner of Mamacita and Wright and Co, Liv Reynolds recently launched a plastic straw-free campaign in Havelock North.

“I would love Havelock North to be the first area to be plastic straw-free and plastic bag free. Our new range of merchandise is a step in the right direction and hopefully it will encourage businesses and residents to ditch the plastic.”

The new plastic free range of merchandise was launched at a Havelock North Business Association Event at Hawthorne and Deliciosa.

The new range of merchandise can be purchased online at https://www.havelocknorthnz.com/shop-online/ and will also be available at retail shops in Havelock North.
