MMNZ realigns senior leadership team

Published: Tue 29 May 2018 02:49 PM
Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand (MMNZ) has established a new senior management structure, which more closely aligns with its future growth targets and which recognises the contributions of individuals key to the company’s success to date.
Having achieved a record 11,621 new vehicle registrations in 2017 and ensured its eighth consecutive year of growth, MMNZ is looking ahead to its next significant goal – securing 10% market share*.
Over the years, MMNZ has astutely nurtured and rewarded its key talent, developing an internal culture in which success breeds success. In keeping with this approach, four individuals, whose contributions have been instrumental to the company’s eight consecutive years of growth, have been promoted into new executive roles.
Daniel Cook (previously General Manager of Vehicle Sales and Marketing) becomes Chief Operating Officer); Tony Johnston (previously National Fleet Sales Manager) becomes Head of Vehicle Sales; Reece Congdon (previously Marketing Manager) becomes Head of Corporate and Marketing Affairs; and Nina Rama (previously Manager, Financial Accountant) becomes Performance and Management Accounting Manager.
MMNZ CEO and President Warren Brown said that the appointments would both strengthen the senior leadership team and allow the wider organisation to develop in pursuit of its ambitious goals.
“We have enjoyed phenomenal success in recent years and continue to develop a strategy for sustained growth and greater market share,” said Mr Brown.
“I am immensely proud of the contribution of our entire team, not to mention our dealer network, in surpassing our latest results year after year. Particularly, though, the three individuals taking on these new, expanded roles, have been instrumental to our success and I have every confidence in their ability to rise to the challenge and help take us to the next level.”
Daniel Cook – Chief Operating Officer
Mr Cook started with MMNZ in 2001 as a Market Analyst and has held various marketing and sales roles.
“Since 2009, Daniel has overseen a 300% increase in sales,” said Mr Brown. “During that time, he has demonstrated outstanding management and leadership qualities. His promotion recognises those abilities and achievements, and is one he has thoroughly earned.”
“I’m very proud to have been presented with this opportunity,” said Mr Cook. “As a team, our drive and determination to better our best remains as strong as ever; I’m honoured to be able to help lead MMNZ into a new era.
“My immediate focus is to continue elevating the profile of Mitsubishi Motors in New Zealand, moving towards our target of 10% market share.
“We are working from a very strong position; one that we’ve been building over the past decade. Brand recognition and customer loyalty has increased, and we have one of the most exciting, dynamic vehicle ranges in our history. I will continue to focus on strengthening that position, with customer satisfaction very much front of mind.
“In terms of customer service, being No.1 in the country is our goal. Our Customer Care Centre has numerous awards, but we can still be better. We refuse to rest on our laurels and, with five new dealership sites opening across the country, the emphasis is on bigger and better.”
Tony Johnston – Head of Vehicle Sales
Mr Johnston is on his third stint with MMNZ and has a combined total of ten years’ experience with the brand. His most recent title was National Fleet Sales Manager, which he took on in 2013. In his new role, he will be responsible for all new vehicle sales.
“In little over four years, Tony has taken our fleet sales from 600 to 3,600 units a year. That is an outstanding record, which bears testament to his formidable drive and industry acumen,” said Mr Brown.
“These qualities will now be directed across the full scope of our new vehicle sales, and I have full confidence that he will have every success in his new role.”
Reece Congdon – Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs
Mr Congdon joined MMNZ in 2008, bringing with him several years’ experience in the advertising industry. Starting as an Advertising Executive, he has since held various roles within the marketing team, playing a key role in the development of the public face of the brand. His contribution earned a promotion to Marketing Manager in 2012.
“Over the past five years, Reece has been instrumental in the evolution of our brand, helping us to surpass 1 million visitors to our website. He is a very sharp and driven operator, with excellent team-building skills. His new role will see him continuing to evolve the brand, while also providing key leadership to our wider marketing and public relations team,” said Mr Brown.
Nina Rama – Performance and Management Accounting Manager
Since starting with MMNZ almost 30 years ago as Management Accountant, Ms Rama has amassed a wealth of experience in the financial operation of the business. Becoming Financial Accountant in 1996 and promoted to Manager, Financial Accounting in 2000, Ms Rama’s latest role provides greater scope to focus her experise on business-wide performance and identify areas for improvement.
“Any MMC subsidiary would consider itself lucky to have a team member with the depth of system knowledge and experience that Nina has,” said Mr Brown. “This appointment provides an opportunity to harness this experience to help make our boat go faster.”
* The company finished FY17 with 7.5% market share.
