A “Special” Win For Petone Printer At Pride In Print Awards

On Friday 11 May, at Auckland’s Sky City, Petone, firm Valley Print won Best in Category for Business Print at the Pride In Print Awards for a stunning salmon-themed business card.

The annual Pride In Print Awards, now in its 25th year, is the printing and graphic arts industry’s premier awards event with judging carried out by key printing industry experts and peers.

Wayne Mallow, the owner of Valley Print, says its good to be recognised for the work that went into a "fairly complex job.”

“There were eight processes. Normally a business card will have just two, like printing and foiling,” says Mr Mallow. “And, the more processes there are, the more likely a job will be less than perfect.”

The finished result was a business card that looked like fish skin, and such was the attention to detail that even the edges were printed a pink salmon colour.

Judge Ian Shemilt said the business card was “absolutely beautiful and could not have been better for the customer,” Ora King Salmon.

“The designer of the card was absolutely blown away when he saw what we produced. Consequently, we have received more equally difficult work from the customer,” says Mr Mallow.

Though Valley Print has won other Pride In Print Awards, this win, says Me Mallow, is a little sweeter.

“Quite a few different people in the company worked on this job, which makes this win pretty special.”
