Five-time NZ Dealmaker of the Year – Pip Greenwood

18 May 2018

Russell McVeagh's Pip Greenwood was named NZ Dealmaker of the Year at last night's Australasian Law Awards held in Sydney.

The firm also won Energy & Resources Deal of the Year led by Corporate partners Mei Fern Johnson and David Raudkivi, together with senior associate Gareth Worthington, who advised on an A$1.585b major trans-Tasman energy transaction.

Acting on market-leading transactions that have changed the face of industries, senior partner and head of the firm's Corporate Advisory Group, Pip advises on many of New Zealand's largest commercial transactions including 2017's first and only NZX listing on the New Zealand and Australian exchanges.

With over ten years' experience on Russell McVeagh's board of management and having served as the leading firm's Board Chair in the past, Pip has been instrumental in the firm's market-leading deal successes with Russell McVeagh Board Chair Malcolm Crotty describing her as an incredible role model at the firm, to the legal profession and to the wider business community.

"Pip has not only helped to shape the commercial market with her expertise advising on New Zealand's largest transactions but exerted her positive influence in the boardrooms of businesses, both locally and internationally. She has been instrumental in the move towards greater diversity and shown leadership in this area through her dedication and involvement in seminars, speaker engagements and acting as a mentor for women."

As a leading figure in the field of commercial law, Pip specialises in mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, takeovers and capital markets work. She joined Russell McVeagh as a Partner in 2001, and has since been awarded New Zealand Dealmaker of the Year at the Australasian Law Awards in 2016, 2012, 2010 and 2008.

Pip's far-reaching talents are recognised with a Band 1 ranking in Chambers & Partners 2018, where she is described as an "undoubted expert in her field. She's one of NZ's best lawyers, always very pragmatic and commercial" and renowned for her strength in M&A and securities offerings. The Corporate team is also ranked Band 1 with their ability to handle heavy workloads and complex transactions further highlighted in this with feedback such as, "We have asked them to go above and beyond on a number of occasions in the past few years, and they delivered time and time again," and, "Very strong position in the market because they're very responsive to their clients. They'll get the work done in time with very high-quality advice."

Russell McVeagh recently topped the list of New Zealand firms advising on the largest value deals of 2017 throughout Australasia in Mergermarket's annual league tables for overall M&A deal value. The league table ranking reflects the firm's role on some of the country's most significant and complex transactions, and follows on from being recognised with eight awards including Large Law Firm of the Year, Employer of Choice, Deal Team of the Year – Corporate Advisory team, as well as winning five of six deal categories including New Zealand Deal of the Year, at the 2017 New Zealand Law Awards in November last year

The firm would like to extend congratulations to all of the winners, particularly the New Zealand In-House Team of the Year winner, Fonterra. Held at The Star, the annual Awards bring together industry leaders to celebrate excellence in the legal profession and the outstanding achievements of firms and in-house teams across Australasia.
