Europcar New Zealand’s partnership with Greenfleet has contributed to planting over 850 native trees and sequestering over 200 tonnes of carbon emissions. Rising awareness of vehicle-related emissions is leading to a growing number of people taking climate action and choosing to support reforestation projects.
Greenfleet’s native forests are biodiverse ecosystems which provide crucial habitat for native species, assist with reducing salinity and soil erosion and contribute to climate change resilience.
Europcar Australia and New Zealand customers have together contributed to the planting of over 175,000 native trees in Australia and New Zealand.
“We are delighted that Europcar New Zealand is continuing to take a leadership role in climate action. Many Europcar customers hire cars to explore the natural beauty of New Zealand’s landscape and this partnership offers a simple way of taking practical climate action and helping preserve the environment for future visitors,” said Wayne Wescott, CEO, Greenfleet.
The continued partnership between Greenfleet and Europcar NZ will fund native reforestation projects around New Zealand which tackle climate change, address critical deforestation and restore vital habitat for native wildlife.
Europcar takes its commitment to the environment seriously and launched its carbon offset program with Greenfleet in 2007. The program enables customers to pay a voluntary amount to offset part of the carbon emissions from their rental vehicle; “every time you rent a car, you can make a contribution to plant native trees and offset your carbon emissions”.
General Manager Europcar New Zealand, Stephen Jones says the partnership aims to reduce the impact of Europcar’s fleet on the environment and offer a carbon offset program to valued customers.
“We pass on all customer contributions to Greenfleet. Our customers directly fund native reforestation projects around the country to genuinely reduce their car rental’s impact on the environment.
“This is our way of leading by example since 2007, and we also work with Greenfleet to offset our staff travel carbon emissions.”
In New Zealand, Europcar’s support has contributed to projects such as the revegetation of Te Muri Regional Park.
In Australia, Europcar’s support has enabled Greenfleet to restore habitat for koalas along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria - one of the world’s most scenic coastal drives. See https://greenfleet.com.au/Our-forests/Planting-Sites/Wood
