Wellington Firm’s First Category Award a Great Win for the Team
At Friday night’s Pride In Print Awards at Auckland’s Sky City Convention Centre, Wellington-based printing firm Label & Litho won Best in Category for labels and best Digital Process.
The annual Pride In Print Awards, now in its 25th year, is the printing and graphic arts industry’s premier awards — the
largest of its kind in New Zealand.
“The awards receive more than 900 entries every year, so winning a category is no mean feat,” says awards manager Sue
Archibald.
Label & Litho general manager Wayne Emerson says the winning label for customer Auribee Honey was of wrap-around design, which
is often a requirement in the honey industry.
“The industry often uses square pottles, and they don’t want to apply multiple labels to flat surfaces. The wrap-around
design allows them to apply a single label around a square object," says Mr Emerson.
Mr Emerson says that the challenge in producing the label was making the customer's specific design work to Label & Litho's environment.
"To get to the end result the customer wanted, which involved getting a true gold effect through a digital print, we
certainly had to use our smarts around the design. All in all, it was a great collaborative process between Auribee
Honey and us."
Abel & Litho have entered the Pride In Print Awards for most years, and they have won several gold awards. However, Mr Emerson
says this is the first year that they have won a category as well as a process gold for digital print.
"For us, this is a fantastic result. Yes, we can use it in our marketing, but most importantly, it's great bringing the
award back to our people at the plant — it takes them to the next level of engagement and pride in what they do."
