Radio 1XX Wins the Premiere Award at the 2018 NZ Radio Awards
The Eastern Bay Of Plenty's local radio station One Double-X was awarded the prestigious Sir Paul Holmes Award for
Broadcaster of the Year at the 40th anniversary of the New Zealand Radio Awards held in Auckland on Thursday 10th May
2018.
1XX also took out Station of the Year (Non-surveyed market) for the third year in a row, this time going up against More
FM Taupo and Radio Wanaka.
In announcing the premiere award at the New Zealand Radio Awards ceremony, presenters Kim Hill and John Campbell
emphasised 1XX's work during and in the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie, in April 2017 and the important role local radio
can play in a disaster, following flooding and then evacuation of Edgecumbe.
Glenn Smith, Managing Director of Radio Bay Of Plenty Limited - 1XX, was on hand in Auckland to accept the award on
behalf of the entire station, and said it was a great honour
to recieve the prestigious award, named in memory of one of New Zealand top broadcasters, Sir Paul Holmes. The award is
given out to a broadcaster or broadcasters that displays, in the year of judging, outstanding performance or impact
related to their particular craft group. Candidates generally come from finalists in the Award categories, although
there may be exceptions to this rule.
