2018 Festival of Architecture curator announced
The New Zealand Institute of Architects has announced that Jeremy Hansen, former editor of Paperboy and Home New Zealand, will curate the public programme of the 2018 Festival of Architecture.
The nationwide Festival, which will include presentations, exhibitions, tours and open studios and buildings, will take place from 14 – 23 September 2018.
Christina van Bohemen, President of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, said that Hansen, who has 15 years’ experience writing about and commentating on architecture, design and social issues, is an ideal fit for the role of Festival curator.
“Jeremy is very familiar with the New Zealand architecture scene, and more than that, he is excellent at communicating architecture to a wider audience. And that is what the Festival of Architecture is all about.”
Hansen is co-author of Villa: From Heritage to Contemporary (2009) and editor of Modern: New Zealand Homes from 1939 to 1977 (2013). He is also a co-host of 76 Small Rooms, New Zealand’s first architectural podcast.
As the Festival of Architecture’s first curator, Jeremy will work with the Institute of Architects’ eight regional branches to develop a programme of events with a wide public interest.
“The Festival of Architecture is a great opportunity for architects and members of the public to join together to celebrate New Zealand’s built environment, and to think about the contribution good architecture can make to the country’s future,” Hansen said.
“We’re putting together a fun and engaging programme aimed at attracting as many people as possible.”
In 2017, the inaugural Festival of Architecture was held in centres from Kaikohe in the north to Queenstown in the south. This year, the organisers want to take the Festival to more towns and cities around the country.
