Transpower invests in future of electricity industry with upgrades to three training facilities
Transpower will hold a whakapainga and formal opening of its Grid Skills Bunnythorpe facility, on Thursday 29 March. This event will mark completion of works to upgrade three key electricity industry training facilities and will be attended by local iwi representatives of Ngāti Kauwhata and Transpower chief executive Alison Andrew.
Transpower plays a key role in New Zealand’s electricity industry by providing training through its Grid Skills programme for many of those working to maintain and repair lines, substations, and other key assets.
“We rely on our service providers - highly skilled professionals who complete the majority of our field work – to help us power lives and jobs across Aotearoa New Zealand.” explains Alison Andrew.
“Our Grid Skills programme and facilities ensure the industry retains knowledge and techniques required to safely and efficiently maintain and repair New Zealand’s high-voltage transmission assets.”
Service provider employees from across New Zealand attend various week-long courses at Transpower’s three Grid Skills facilities, supporting the economy of the communities in which these facilities are based. Two other training facilities at Omaka and Western Road were recently upgraded.
