New Zealand at Expo 2020 design team announced

New Zealand at Expo 2020 has announced the design team that will lead the design and visitor experience of the New Zealand Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The design team is a multi-disciplinary consortium led by Jasmax, one of New Zealand’s leading architecture firms, along with Special Group (creative story-telling) and Mott MacDonald (engineering).

New Zealand’s pavilion will be located in Expo 2020’s Sustainability District and be based on the unique value of kaitiakitanga: guardians for people and place.

“Expo 2020 will allow us to demonstrate New Zealand’s culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, through a lens of kaitiakitanga, to a global audience of millions” says Clayton Kimpton, New Zealand’s Commissioner-General for Expo 2020.

Expo 2020 will bring together more than 180 countries around the theme Connecting Minds, Creating the Future for a six-month event from October 2020 to April 2021.

“The United Arab Emirates is our 10th largest trading partner and its strategic location between Europe and Asia means it is an increasingly important gateway for our exports. Our presence at Expo 2020 will allow New Zealand businesses to seek new partners in the Gulf region and beyond.”

The Government has committed $53 million over the next four years to design, construct, operate and promote the New Zealand Pavilion at Expo 2020.

The design team was selected by a 10-person specialist Evaluation Panel and appointed by the New Zealand at Expo 2020 Steering Group.
